Liberation Week: Day 1

Well, that was unexpected.

We kicked off Liberation Week bright and early this Monday morning, offering two free iPhone Liberation Kits to the first 1,776 people who signed up. We thought the kits might go quickly; we didn’t expect they would go this quickly. In exactly 16 minutes, 1,776 people snapped up every one of the 3,552 Liberation Kits we set aside for free—shipping included.

iPhone liberation kits

Of course, we wanted everyone to have a Liberation Kit. So, we dropped the price of our remaining Liberation Kits for the iPhone 4, 4S, and 5 down to $0.00 + shipping. By day’s end, we had given away over 9,000 Liberation Kits. That’s 9,000 iPhones that will soon be liberated. Every replaced pentalobe screw is a powerful symbol of our resistance: We will not be locked out of our phones!

Of course, 9,000 phones are just a drop in the bucket. Apple sold over 37 million iPhones in the first quarter of 2013 alone. We’d liberate every single one of those phones for free if we could, but we’d go out of business trying.

Here’s what we’re doing instead:

Liberation Week lasts through July 5. We will keep offering our Liberation Kits for $0.00 + shipping until Friday or until we run completely out of stock—whichever comes first. We’re trying to liberate as many people as possible, but we have a limited number of kits. So please keep it to a maximum of two kits per person.

If you haven’t ordered your kits yet, we still have Liberation Kits for the iPhone 4 and 4S and the iPhone 5. If you’ve already ordered your Liberation Kits, please allow us at least a week for shipping. We’ve got lots of orders and we are trying to fill them as quickly as possible. Until then, happy Liberation Week—and happy fixing!
